Can you imagine the vibe of the santouri – the ravishing dulcimer of Greece-, together with a 13 strings viola, which has non exist before, the rarely singed beautiful songs, with impulsive rhythm section all together? This is Meybahar! A deep shot through the islands of the Aegean Sea, Asia Minor, and the Middle East inspired by the heritage of modal music, and the music of our time, the meeting points of different cultures. Their first album „Abyss“ (Fonó-2019) delivers a multi-cultural fusion of melodies directly inspired by the Greek, Turkish and Persian music, with the band’s original compositions. „Abyss“ was one of the most popular albums of Balkan World Music Charts 2019. The album was on international radio playlists, like Global Village, Melbourne – Australia, the Mondophone radio in Luxembourg. They also organise regular music events in Budapest based Fonó, called “Meybahar Evenings” and invite to perform and work together worldwide known musicians such as Ross Daly & Kelly Thoma and Haig Yazdjian, Martha Mavroidi. Meybahar has performed in: Budapest Ritmo / Akvárium klub / fonó / O.Z.O.R.A. / Etnofest World Music Festival / European Tour 2018 (Bruxelles, Paris, Luxembourg, Réding, Graz, Wien) / Zsolnay Light festival / Babel Sound / Szimpla.

Sechs Junge Grazer mit Wurzeln in Griechenland, Montenegro, Türkei und der Steiermark beglücken das Publikum von Pula nach Maribor, von Graz nach Niederösterreich über Salzburg bis Südtirol nunmehr schon seit über drei Jahren mit ihrem tanzbaren Musilkcocktail aus Gipsystandarts, Folkklängen vom südöstlichen Alpenraum, über den Balkan, die Ägäis bis nach Anatolien kombiniert mit Funk, Soul, Rock und sogar Hip-Hop -Einflüssen. Ihre oft ungeraden Rhythmen, ihr elegantes Auftreten und ihr charmantes Bandmaskottchen (namens Lijak), welches sich als graphischer roter Faden durch ihre – auch visuell sehr schön anzuschauenden -Veröffentlichungen zieht, haben noch jedes Holzbein auf die Tanzfläche getrieben. Im moment arbeitet die Band, nach zwei Singleveröffentlichungen, an ihrem ersten Tonträger.
